DriveLab™ provides expert driver assessment and rehabilitation services to a range of clients including but not limited to:
- Clients who have been asked to complete a Functional Driving Assessment by their physicians or the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) or who have a medically suspended Driver’s Licence
- Clients involved in a motor vehicle accident and who may be experiencing a physical or psychological impairment
DriveLab accepts referrals from the driver themselves, a family member, Family Physician, Specialist, insurance company, legal representative, health professional.

DRIVING ASSESSMENT: comprised of two parts completed by our skilled Occupational Therapists and Certified Driving Instructors.
INITIAL IN-CLINIC ASSESSMENT: Completed by our Certified Occupational Therapists with the client, consists of:
- Medical history
- Physical examination
- Cognitive assessment
- Perceptual assessment
- Road safety assessment
These assessment tools are evidence based and designed to assess an individual’s medical fitness to drive
A Functional Driving Assessment is approximately 2.5 hours in total (completed on the same day) and consists of a clinical assessment (1.5 hours) with an Occupational Therapist which includes a brief medical history, physical assessment, cognitive and perceptual assessment followed by an in-vehicle assessment (45 minutes) with a Licensed Driving Instructor and Occupational Therapist which takes place in our vehicle equipped with dual-brake system and consists of an in-car assessment including basic driving maneuvers with a debriefing at the end to go over the results of the assessment and provide recommendations.

A Functional Driving Assessment is not covered by The Ministry of Transportation or Ministry of Health. We may be able to help you identify funding sources.
No. Only the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario has the authority to suspend a driver’s licence. We will evaluate you and if we determine that your medical condition is affecting your ability to safely operate a vehicle then we will forward our report to The Ministry of Transportation, Medical Review Section for their review and decision.
Yes, You must have a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence to participate in the on-road portion of the assessment. However, if your driver’s licence is medically suspended, DriveLab will request a One-Day Temporary Driver’s Licence permit through The Ministry of Transportation, Medical Review Section, for the assessment date.
